New Trick Tuesday - Bouts-Rimés

Hello and welcome to New Trick Tuesday!  Every week I will post a new poetry form description and my attempt at it.  I would love your feedback and if you do a poem I would love to see it so please post it in the comments or post a link to your blog post if you put it in your blog.  Happy poeming!  :-)

~~~
From: http://www.thepoetsgarret.com/list.html
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouts-Rimés
Bouts-Rimés
Bouts-Rimés, literally (from the French) "rhymed-ends", is the name given to a kind of poetic game defined by Addison, in the Spectator, as lists of words that rhyme to one another, drawn up by another hand, and given to a poet, who was to make a poem to the rhymes in the same order that they were placed upon the list.
The more odd and perplexing the rhymes are, the more ingenuity is required to give a semblance of common-sense to the production.
For instance, the rhyme scheme breeze, elephant, squeeze, pant, scant, please, hope, pope are submitted, and the following stanza is the result:
Escaping from the Indian breeze,
The vast, sententious elephant
Through groves of sandal loves to squeeze
And in their fragrant shade to pant;
Although the shelter there be scant,
The vivid odours soothe and please,
And while he yields to dreams of hope,
Adoring beasts surround their Pope.
~~~

The words I was given for this one were: orange with no rhyme... and "Party hearty grab bacardi"... Ici et mon poem Bouts-Rimés:

SOIREE ELIXIR

with twist of lime or slice of orange
mixed drinks can liven any party
but not weak please make them hearty
plenty of alcohol to grab
but be sure to stock up on Bacardi

THE CHALLENGE CONTINUES! More words given: void, Freud, annoyed, whirl, curl, unemployed, Earl, swirl, anabolic steroid

this is a continuation of "SOIRÉE ELIXIR" ...

many use strong drink to fill the void
with mommy issues to chagrin Dr. Freud
I believe even he would truly be annoyed
as club crawls turn into tipsy tilt-a-whirl
beer to mouth the exercise curl
done too much they end up unemployed
in the trailer park next to Bubba and Earl
leaning over toilets watching the water swirl
they'd get more lift out of anabolic steroids

Another Bouts-Rimés with these words: Truth aloof, pride inside, value palak aloo, vision prison, masturbate procrastinate,

SEEKING OBJECTIVE REASON

in an ideal world our main goal woud be truth
but from honesty and openness we have become aloof
this is all due to a strong sense of unecessary pride
so there is denial of the needs that are inside
when validity has become in media to be of so little of value
all facts and conjecture mixed like ingredients in palak aloo
the information is too much to where is has clouded our vision
the freedom of truth is hidden in lie built prison
and the things we say so self centered as we verbally masturbate
the seeing of reality on hold as we continue to procrastinate

************************************************

PERSONAL NOTE ON THE PROCESS...
So since this required external input, I posted a Facebook status to solicit rhyme lists.  One thing for me and ANY rhymed form... half the time *I* come up with the rhyming words 1st and THEN write the poem... so... this was a challenge but not super hard. :-P

New Trick Tuesday - Bref Double

Hello there! It's Tuesday again and another form to work with! This week is Bref Double. After you read the description and my attempt, feel free to do your own. I'd love to see your work so post in the comments or post the link to your blog entry.  Have fun!

~~~
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bref_double
Bref double
Bref double is a French poetic form consisting of 3 quatrains and a final couplet, making 14 lines.
There is some debate about the rhyme scheme, though in all versions the scheme consists of three rhymes and 4-5 un-rhymed lines, providing the bref double's primary distinction from sonnets[1][2].
According to Lyon, the bref double has a single form with a fixed rhyme scheme and, most distinctively, only the first two quatrains share a final rhyme.
axbc
xaxc
axab
ab
However, other variants are possible, such as:
axxc
bxxc
abxc
ab
Both sources agree that there is no requirement of meter in a bref double, though all lines must be consistent in length.
My attempt:
TENDERNESS BREAKDOWN
I find my heart has trouble finding it's center some days
writhing in alternating bouts of indecision and apathy
wondering what destiny if any it is supposed to have
and will anyone other than self really and truly care
it is not fitting to the mind these whims of the ribs
becoming a particularly annyoing and worrysome malaise
these oscillating fits of joy, pain, and irony
fold themselves into gusts of cold lonesome air
this forlorn atmosphere, this friendless sky
belies a certain sense of hopelessness
deserted empty space, this abandoned haze
wants desperately some kind of healing salve
there is dissention in all of love's ways
looking to be whole when when existing as only half
*******
PERSONAL NOTE ON THE PROCESS...
For this I did my usual thing with rhymes where I find the words first and then write the poem. I chose the axbc/xaxc/axab/ab rhyme scheme for this poem. I may come back and write another from the other scheme but this catches me up for my 2 forms per day based on the list I have. YAY! :-)
New Trick Tuesday - Balliol
The second New Trick Tuesday on this blog!  This week lets look at Balliol. I hope that you will join me and post your attempt either in the comments or post a link to your blog post of the poem.  Let's go!
~~~

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balliol_rhyme

Balliol rhyme

A Balliol rhyme is a doggerel verse form with a distinctive meter. They are quatrains consisting of two pairs of rhyming couplets, each line having four beats. The first couplet contains the name of a particular individual, and the second couplet usually elaborates on that person's character or exploits or weaknesses.

The form is associated with Balliol College, Oxford[1][2]. It originated with "The Masque of B-ll--l", published anonymously in 1875 by a group of Balliol undergraduates.

Balliol rhymes are almost always about a person. They are four lines long and the rhyme scheme is usually AABB. They are not to be confused with Clerihews.

Examples

About Benjamin Jowett, Master of Balliol (from "The Masque of B-ll--l"):

First come I. My name is J-w-tt.
There's no knowledge but I know it.
I am Master of this College,
What I don't know isn't knowledge.

About George Nathaniel Curzon:

My name is George Nathaniel Curzon,
I am a most superior person.
My cheeks are pink, my hair is sleek,
I dine at Blenheim twice a week.

About the building of the Athenaeum Club (it does not follow the AABB rhyme scheme):

I'm John Wilson Croker,
I do as I please;
Instead of an Ice House
I give you - a frieze!

~~~
My attempt:
FAVORITES TO READ (a balliol series)
Hello! I'm Rachel Mckibbens.
You'll take the prompt I have given.
I've been on Def Poetry Jam.
I've earned the right to be called Ma'am!
Hi! My name is Buddy Wakefield.
I have a positivity shield.
At the top of this poetry game,
many poets will know my name.
John "Survivor" Blake in the house
Listen what comes out of my mouth
Sometimes depressed, sometimes depraved
my chapbooks come with razor blades
I go by the name of Jon Sands
I'm one of the best in the land
if you need help getting higher
my poetic words will inspire
Call me Roger Bonair-Agard
poetically I do come hard
just shy of being heaven
and not just 'cause of my accent!
I am Apollo Poetry.
a few of you do know of me.
Now my name is legally changed,
even though you may think it's strange.
(I could write these all day but I'll stop here! :-P)
*******
PERSONAL NOTE ON THE PROCESS...
For the sake of today's assignment I chose to use the AABB rhyme scheme as opposed to the abcb scheme in the example above or using abab as a variation.
New Trick Tuesday - Balwo
Welcome to New Trick Tuesday!  Every week I will be posting a new poetic form and my attempt at it for your perusal. I would love to see your attempt as well. Please post in the comments or post the link to your blog post.  Happy poeming!
~~~

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balwo

Balwo

Balwo is a style of music and poetry practiced in Djibouti as well as Somalia. Its lyrical contents often deal with love and passion. Balwo was founded by Abdi Sinimo.[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdi_Sinimo]

1. ^ Abdullahi, Mohamed Diriye (2001). Culture and Customs of Somalia. Greenwood Publishing Group. pp. 172. ISBN 9780313313332.

~~~
My attempt:
UNABASHEDLY (sort of a balwo)
the place where love lives most deeply
can only be fathomed by those within its embrace
who silently extract the meaning of life
from places in their soul they never knew existed
that this era of being is for living
and the living should be to the fullest
the most of fear and doubt and joy and ecstasy
and you have brought that out in me
a courage I did not know I was capable of
gave me delight filled evenings
with the magic of our sexuality
I am washed with the purity of your affection
I am bathed with the sincerity of your attention
give me more of this good thing
push me further over the edge
this is what I am waiting for
this is what makes it all worth it
*******
PERSONAL NOTE ON THE PROCESS...
Since I don't speak the languages of Djibouti or Somalia, not sure what to do with the little bit information found when I searched for this musical form. SO... I just wrote about of love and passion.
I was thinking about doing the poem in the rhythm/meter of this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YE7oVy6mICQ and see how it works, but I don't have the patience for that right now. :-P
#TBT = Throwback Thursday! - Love
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
For those of you who are not aware of how I did things on my other blog, every Thursday I do the poetic version of the Instagram/Twitter/Facebook craze of posting something that is a blast from the past. On my other blog I was going in chronological order so I think I will do the same here. I hope you enjoy reading the poetry as much as I enjoyed reliving these poetic walks down memory lane! Feedback is welcome and appreciated so let me know what you think in the comments! :-)
Love
There is this winding in my soul
A road whose end I do not know
I hear the calling to follow this path
And I go
There is a King to travel with me
And I take this chance
As though it is the only chance I will ever have
The swelling of the blood in my heart
Is normal now
This joy every day
Is normal now
And Langston and Saul and Maya and Sonia
They speak in my mind
Lines as gifts
Written as gifts
And I breathe
A solid air of golden light
This Love is mine
And I taste it like sweet honey
He loves me
So I enjoy the journey
The voyage of this
Love
